Quarantine Musings

Aside from prayers and exercise, I do a lot of mind conditioning nowadays to avoid anxiety. You can't help it if your going through this pandemic. It is one way to keep one's sanity and ward off negative thoughts. Blogging(or writing it down) too, surely helps.

This two month lockdown made me realized a lot of things...

1. I love cooking for my family but hey, I'm just human, I do get tired.  Especially, when you constantly do it twice to three times a day in this hot and humid weather. Kakaluto mo pa lang lunch, iniisip mo na yung preparation sa dinner. Sabi ko minsan sa asawa ko at anak ko, "para akong may canteen ah!" In return naman, we do order and take out food at least once in a week. Pero kapag iniisip ko na it would take a long time before we could dine out again, I feel sad. It is a fave activity of ours- dining out at least twice a week.

2. I miss going to the wet market/grocery twice a week with no restrictions. Before, I do this after my Zumba because our gym is just a few steps from the grocery. Nowadays, going out and doing this is already a major production. You have to wear a mask, goggles or glasses, a hat and gloves, for some. In my belt bag, aside from money, phone and keys, I need to have my quarantine pass and an alcohol spray. Once you get to the grocery or palengke, you have to wait in line for quite a while. Inside, I have this sense of urgency to finish off my errand. I tend to become paranoid. Nagiging germophobic na yata ako. And this is supposed to be a stress busting activity on my part dapat. I love going through the aisles and check even those things that I don't need without thinking that I might pick something na full of germs. Iba pa yung pagdating mo sa bahay, ako rin ang mag-di-disinfect or maghuhugas ng pinamili ko. I got traumatized(or just tired) yata once, I didn't go out talaga for two weeks straight.

3. I don't miss the mall at all- well, initially. But every time I thought of buying something that I need like a simple kitchen utensil(ex. spatula), or a piece of furniture or an appliance that I thought before wasn't an immediate necessity, I do want to head out and proceed to the nearest one. I need to re-paint or do a makeover DIY but all the hardware stores nearby aren't in operation. Sa mall, may Ace hardware, True Value or Handyman.

4. I need to go plant shopping again. Some of the ones I bought last February went to plant heaven na. I also regret that I didn't buy pechay seeds when I had all the time to grab one in my many trips to the supermarket or hardware store.

5. A roadtrip or a plane ride isn't gonna happen soon. I miss the beach and I wanna go back to Japan.

6. 'Nagtatampo' na yung make-up, alahas, sapatos at damit ko. I miss wearing them. Sometimes, I put on perfume kahit nasa bahay lang. When I do my grocery and wet market errands, yung brows lang ang pwedeng ayusin di ba. One time, I put on some lipstick, pero mag-ma-mask pala ako. Face palm moment.

7. This is not the best time to get sick and be hospitalized. Boosting one's immune system and having a healthy diet(the hardest part) should be prioritized now more than ever. Alam mo yung yung feeling na may sore throat ka lang, then Covid-19 comes to mind. If there's an urgent medical attention that I need siguro oral prophylaxis by my dentist. The last time I had was January or February yata. It is due na by June.

8. If there's one big financial advice you need to hear from me and if I could nag you just like how I am to my son- don't forget to save up for the 'rainy days'. It may sound too cliché, but even there's a pandemic or not, CASH IS GOLD all the time. You may all have the fanciest things around you, but if you don't have the liquidity to spend during an emergency, everything else won't matter. Of course, you may sell them but it will buy you time. Iba yung meron ka na agad at your own disposal whenever, wherever. I don't need to elaborate more, but, it is one BIG worry off your mind.

9. Rough times bring out the best and worst in people. Doon mo malalaman HOW a person will face an adversity head on. It is one true test of character and....values, if I may add. Makaka-adapt kaya siya o tatakbuhan niya ang realidad?

10. I'm beyond thankful that my family isn't experiencing a major trial(health concerns, death, family feuds, etc.) alongside with this pandemic. I pray that it won't come in the nearest future. Have mercy on us and many thanks, Lord.

Korean drama fan

You know what one thing that made me sane during my grief journey after my Mom died? Watching K dramas or Korean novelas. I was a fan na before of Meteor garden and Lovers in Paris but never in my wildest imagination that I will really succumb to my weekly binge watching that really eats up a lot of my waking hours. :) Instead of being depressed and lonely, I entertained myself by watching how a beautiful story unfolds before my eyes. Yung dialogues nila para ka minsang nagbabasa ng libro, beautifully written. I wonder, what more in their language no?

Weekender 05: Procastination ends + Pleasant surprise

Last week was quite eventful. It started with my long overdue dental prophylaxis last Monday. Looking back, I'm glad I stopped procastinating about it because I went to the clinic just in time I needed one. Nasermunan ako ng doctor slash brother in law ko. Haha. I saved a lot of money just because I decided to came by. It caused me a few sleepless nights, actually.

Intermittent Fasting conclusion

I attended another zumba session on Wednesday, again struggling with just water, coffee, banana and three spoonfuls of shredded sweet corn. Parang nabubusog agad ako. One thing I observed from this fasting was it curbed my appetite. Hindi ko na na-eenjoy kumain. Ang sad di ba?

Super Blood wolf moon

Being a "look at the moon" kind of person, I didn't realize I took a shot of this lunar phenomenon Sunday night while I was out in our garden. Wala nagandahan lang talaga ako sa kanya. In my mind, it was incredibly huge for a full moon, so I took my phone and captured the moment. My intention was to put it in my IG story but I forgot. Sa twitter ko na lang nalaman about it. Funny.

Weekender 02: de-Christmastified, Mom's health and some shopping

Is there ever a word "de-Christmastify"? Well, I just invented it. :D

One word that will describe my Monday last week. I finally had the courage to undress my tree and washed it. Everything that will remind us of Christmas is already tucked away in their respective boxes and cabinets.

2019 goals

Last year, my prime goal was to save up. Medyo nag-fail ako doon. I intend to outdo it this year. I was able to save up but unfortunately, I didn't reach my expectations. My goal to continue with my fit lifestyle was reached but not as good as my statistics last 2017.

For 2019, I want to accomplish the following with flying colors...

* save, save, save!
* travel to a dream destination on my 50th. locally, to a beach destination I've never been to
* post regularly here on my blog(weekenders, not daily para mas achievable)
* buy a dining table or a lazy boy
* follow religiously a healthy diet
* more bonding with my Mom
* to be more tolerant with my husband and son
* be kind to myself(ok lang hindi perfect at times)
* attend a formal cooking/baking class
* minimize shopping for teacups, tableware :D

Hello, once again

Yes, I know I’ve neglected this site once again. Ang dami nang nangyari from my last post but nothing major naman. My life is so routinary so you can imagine kung ano man yung kinukwento ko from my past posts, it doesn't have that much difference. Lol.

blessed week ahead

My sister is celebrating her birthday today. Yesterday, we(my Mom, Aunt, and sis) visited my late Dad to give honor. We believe that during our birthdays, we should also celebrate our parents. Because without their loving presence, we won't be here on earth.

a rainbow and more plants

This rainbow made me smile on a gloomy Tuesday. Luckily, the road was almost carless when I took a shot.

a Rainbow is mysterious for me
I asked my husband to accompany me because I'll buy more plants, rocks, and fertilizer in the garden center this afternoon.

2018 goals

I always say I'm not into resolutions but more on setting goals for the new year. We all have 12 new chapters and 365 chances to look forward to. So why not put it into good use, right?

Here are mine...

Pitch black

My Tuesday is action packed. Last Friday, I called off my facial appointment just because I binge watched the Netflix series "Stranger Things"(I"ll have a separate post on this). Kaya ayun jampacked today. I deposited at the bank first, then facial/diamond peel and lastly, zumba. Ay meron pa pala, grocery. Mukhang tatlong beses na ko nag-gro-grocery since Thursday ah? Kaya siguro when I weighed myself earlier I was three pounds heavier. Aaargh. A case of "Tinimbang ka ngunit sobra."

McDo Monday

My week day routine starts at four in the morning to cook for my son's breakfast. Then I'll go back to bed and try to sleep again for a couple of hours.

This morning is quite different. I woke up at 9am and to this...

Gadgets, Errands and an almost Heart attack

I went through my routine as usual in the morning. After lunch, my husband went off first to see his Kumpare regarding their vinyl hunting hobby. I dropped off my son at the MRT station and proceeded to the mall to have my gadgets 'consult their doctors'.

all you can eat pasta

I realized it had been a carbo loading day today. Hindi naman ako sasali ng marathon pero ewan ko ba at ito ang naisipan kong iluto. Champorado for breakfast but sorry, no picture.

For lunch, I whipped this up for my Spaghetti's tomato sauce. I added these sausages...

Bank hopping and Dad(+) visit

I had a previous bank transaction earlier from my sis' branch before I braved the famous Monday traffic. Luckily, it was tolerable compared to my SIL and husband's ordeal in going to the airport this morning. Two and a half hours papunta, one hour and a half pabalik. Nakarating ka na ng Baguio nun. Sigh.

Sleepless in Manila

I wasn't getting enough sleep the past few days. I'm adjusting to my son's sked. His work lasts till midnight. No, he doesn't work in a call center. He is in animation and their clients involve the Nickelodeon company in the US.  My husband is an early riser due to his work and hobby naman- biking which requires him to wake up before sunrise and return home by 1pm at least five times a week. Tapos si Loki our beagle, makakita lang ng pusa tatahol. The problem with me, I'm always having a hard time to go back to sleep. And there are rare times that I will get a power or an afternoon nap.

Friday payday and Pasalubong shopping

I try not to go to the bank on paydays. Traffic and the number of people going out are the things that has to be considered. But sometimes it is inevitable. Ganito nangyari sa akin today. Due to traffic I wasn't able to retrieve the returned cheque that I needed to get today. I have my son with me ayaw ko siya ma-late. I postponed it for Monday and dropped him off at the MRT station and headed to the mall for two more bank errands and some window shopping.

If all else fails...

It was officially a palpak day today. Actually it started as early as after midnight when my son called me up and said he'll be late because EDSA was closed from Shaw boulevard where his office is up to Santolan. The EDSA People Power anniv rites is happening at 12 noon pero ang pang-iistorbo nila sa working class/taxpayers ay walang kaparis. He rides a bus everyday to commute to and from work. There will be a detour from his usual route. I was doubly worried because it was too late na and public transpo was becoming scarce.
