Nilagang Beef Bulalo (Stewed Beef shank)

It's a rainy day today. Hmmmm... seems what I cooked for lunch is on point. Habagat rains call for something hot and soupy. I'm missing my fave cabbage and Baguio beans here because I thought I could drop by the wet market this morning. Oh well...

On the table today...

Ingredients: (for 3 people)

  • 1/2 k beef shank
  • 1 small bundle Pechay, detached
  • 1/2 head cabbage
  • 2 med sized potatoes, cut
  • 1 tbsp Whole pepper corn
  • 1 small ginger, sliced and pounded
  • 1 medium sized onion
  • 5 c water
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce (optional) or salt
Instructions:
-In a big pot pour in water and bring to a boil. Add on the beef shank followed by the onion, ginger and whole peppercorns then simmer for 1 hour (20 mins if using a pressure cooker) or until meat is tender.
-Add the potatoes and simmer for another 5 minutes.
-Add the fish sauce, cabbage. Simmer again.
-Add the pechay last.
-Serve while hot!

What did you have for lunch today?
